State of Origin drive time

Cars with Champion DNA

Known as ‘Australian sport’s greatest rivalry’, the annual battle between the NSW Blues and QLD Maroons for the State of Origin championship draws rapt crowds from all over the nation. We’ve matched some of the most popular new vehicles with the Origin players who echo their strengths, driving style and on-field performance.

Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

Big name, big ride, big expectations.

Versatile, reliable, and built to make life easier for the whole squad – the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid and Maroons player Cameron Munster are a natural match.

With 7 or 8 seats, the Palisade can carry the whole crew comfortably. Munster does the same on game day, looking after everyone on the field as team player and leader. Loaded with intelligent safety tech and smart features, the Palisade easily earns its 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Munster brings that same intelligence to gameplay, analysing conditions and making clever decisions under pressure to ensure the team stays in control.

Under the bonnet, the advanced 2.5L turbocharged hybrid powertrain delivers strong performance with impressive efficiency. It seamlessly shifts between electric power, petrol, or a combination of both depending on what the moment demands, much like Munster adapting his style to suit the flow of the match.

Inside the cabin, keep your eyes on the game play with Head-Up Display, and the breathtaking panoramic curved display that combines two 12.3-inch infotainment and digital cluster displays. The island-style centre console features a unique UV-C sterilisation tray that sanitises items like phones and wallets. The first two rows of seats are heated and ventilated, with heating for the fullbacks in the third row too.

Comfortable, capable and consistently crowd-pleasing, the Palisade delivers standout moments through every drive. Just like Munster, it makes for an exhilarating experience on game day – and beyond.

Toyota RAV4

Toyota RAV4

Knows how to win the crowd.

Like the Maroons’ veteran Daly Cherry-Evans, the Toyota RAV4 is highly respected in Australia, and no stranger to big crowds. It’s the 6th generation of a proven nameplate, still playing hard and showing no signs of slowing down.

Australia’s best-selling medium SUV in 2025, the RAV4 continues to evolve, with new hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants arriving in 2026 to raise the bar yet again. Both powertrains offer 2WD and 4WD options, if your needs extend to occasional towing or adventuring beyond the asphalt.

Like Cherry-Evans, the RAV4 is confident on the field and off. It offers a large boot space of up to 749L with the full 5 passengers onboard and optional power tailgate for easier loading.

And for those who like their veterans even beefier, a GR Sport variant is also on the way with stiffer suspension, wider wheel track, and sport styling.

Cut from the same cloth as Cherry-Evans, the RAV4 delivers season after season and is trusted to be dependable when the pressure is on.

BMW iX1

BMW iX1

Precision in motion. Powerful lineage.

Like Blues player Nathan Cleary, the BMW iX1 is a modern-day master of its craft. Polished, refined and built with precision, it’s the kind of all-round performer that makes every moment look effortless.

Inside, the all-electric iX1 pairs premium materials with clever technology in a cabin that feels both practical and aesthetic, with a panoramic glass sunroof. The back seat could happily host two of Cleary’s teammates, with the 490L boot swallowing kit bags without complaint.

On game day, Cleary fans will appreciate its premium, controlled and consistently clean performance. As you’d expect from team BMW, the iX1 boasts excellent driving dynamics and a range of 400-464km can get you to the stadium and home again easily. Recharge can take just 29 minutes on a DC fast charger, or less than 4 hours on an 11kW wall box at home.

Packed with advanced safety features, the iX1 combines intelligence with athleticism, representing excellent value for money in its class. Like Cleary, it’s a crowd-pleasing addition to the team.

BYD Shark 6

BYD Shark 6

Turning heads wherever it goes.

Its game-changing presence echoes that of Blues powerhouse Latrell Mitchell. Both have earned plenty of praise and accolades to show they’re at the top of their game – the Shark 6 crowned ‘Car of the Year 2026 Ute under $85K’ and ‘Wheels Ute of the Year 2025 and 2026’.

Off-road, its 230mm unladen ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles give it serious prowl on all terrain. Mud, Sand and Snow terrain driving modes adjust vehicle performance to the game-day conditions.

Like Mitchell, its stats are epic – with 321kW and 2,500kg towing for toys or tools. They share impressive stamina, too – as an efficient plug-in hybrid, the Shark 6 has a combined driving range of 800km per 60L tank, up to 100km of electric-only range, and a combined fuel consumption of 2L/100km when battery is above 25%. For a ute, that’s unheard of.

The Shark 6 has plenty of everyday ‘wow’ moments too, like the 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display and smartphone key. It can fit an Aussie-style pallet in the tray, and the tailgate can be operated a variety of ways, including electronically. Three 230V sockets in the tray let you plug and play your electronics wherever you are. It’s also great for rear occupants, with plenty of headroom and knee space and comfortable width for three teammates.

Powerful, decorated and built for the big moments, the Shark 6 plays the long game with the same explosive performance as Mitchell on Origin night.
