Genesis GV60

Effortless luxury and impressive range

Behind the wheel: Joo and partner/passenger Andy

It’s easy to see why the Genesis GV60 has received global recognition, collecting awards for its premium interior and innovative design. After spending a few weeks driving it around town, I can certainly understand the appeal. What has impressed me most wasn't just the luxury feel or the technology, it was how effortlessly the GV60 fit into my everyday life.

From thoughtful convenience features to surprisingly accurate battery range, this is an EV that feels designed for real-world driving. Plus, the luxury Genesis GV60 Advanced is under the luxury car tax threshold, meaning you can novate this electric vehicle using all pre-tax dollars, saving you thousands more.

Things to like about it

  • 27-inch OLED screen is a showstopper
  • Smooth ride quality
  • Offers both luxury and quality
  • Looks and feels plush inside
  • A (bigger) battery at 84kWh offering up to 561km electric range
  • Multi-level single-pedal drive using regenerative braking via paddle shifters
  • A heat-pump heater with driver-only zoning to help range
  • Electric tailgate
  • 360-degree camera system offers excellent visibility

First impressions: premium from the moment you step inside

The Genesis GV60 Advanced immediately feels different to many other electric SUVs. Open the door and you're greeted by an interior that feels plush and luxurious. Soft-touch materials, quality finishes and a beautifully designed cabin create a premium atmosphere.

The front bucket seats offer heating and ventilation, so you’re catered for all seasons. More importantly, the seats proved incredibly comfortable and supportive on our trip to the Mornington Peninsula and after a long day hiking Werribee Gorge.

One feature that immediately caught my attention was the massive 27-inch OLED display stretching across the dashboard. It looks impressive, but more importantly, it's easy to use. Navigation directions can be displayed directly in front of the driver, making it easy to follow directions without constantly looking across to the centre screen.

crystal sphere

I also appreciated that Genesis hasn't hidden every function inside the touchscreen. Physical buttons remain for key features like climate control and heated and ventilated seats, making adjustments quick and intuitive while driving.

One of the more unique features is the Crystal Sphere gear selector on the floating centre console. When the vehicle is switched off, it appears as a decorative crystal orb. Start the car and it rotates to reveal the gear selector, adding a touch of theatre every time you get behind the wheel. It’s a real conversation starter and gives the cabin a futuristic feel.

Novate & save on a Genesis GV60

The little things that make a big difference

The longer I spent in the GV60, the more thoughtful touches I discovered.

The wireless phone charging pad sits neatly in the centre console and is easy to access. There's also generous storage throughout the cabin, including beneath the centre console, which was ideal for storing my handbag. There are also dedicated cup holders and big bottle holders in the doors.

Other surprisingly useful features I enjoyed:

  • A lock and unlock button located on the front passenger side
  • An illuminated vanity mirror. Open the visor and the light automatically switches on
  • Quiet Mode which lets you adjust audio volume for rear seat passengers so they can sleep
  • Run air conditioning for the driver only, helping optimise energy use when travelling alone
  • Plenty of charging options like USB ports and a 12V outlet
  • Ability to save your favourite charging stations near work or home

In the underfloor storage of the boot, Genesis has included some thoughtful extras including cables, a first aid kit, tyre mobility kit, cargo net and roadside assistance kit complete with gloves, high-visibility poncho, reflective triangle and mat. While there's no spare tyre, the thoughtful inclusion of these extras demonstrates Genesis’s attention to detail.

What it's like to drive

It's clear the Genesis GV60 doesn't struggle when it comes to electric performance. Like most electric vehicles, power delivery is immediate. It feels quick off the mark around town and effortlessly reaches highway speeds when merging or overtaking.

The cabin remains remarkably quiet, creating a calm and relaxing driving experience even at freeway speeds. The ride quality is equally impressive. It’s smooth and comfortable – just what you’d expect from a luxury vehicle.

Genesis has also done an excellent job with its safety technology. The standout feature for me was the Blind Spot View Monitor. When indicating to change lanes, a live camera feed appears directly on the driver's display, showing exactly what's happening beside the vehicle. It's incredibly useful and quickly becomes something you wish every car had.

Parking is equally stress-free thanks to the excellent 360-degree camera system and surrounding visibility technology.

The Genesis GV60 left a lasting impression

The Genesis GV60 Advanced delivers premium comfort, standout technology and excellent range without making things overly complicated. The comfortable ride and abundance of practical features made it one of the easiest EVs we've driven to simply jump in and enjoy.

If you're looking for a premium electric SUV under the LCT, the Genesis GV60 Advanced is worth considering. And thanks to the government EV discount#, it’s more affordable than ever to get behind the wheel of a Genesis. The Genesis GV60 provides a luxury EV experience under the LCT, which exempts it from Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT). This means you could save thousands on income tax with a novated lease.
